About Us

Kathy and I are breast cancer survivors and co-admins of the DIEP Flap Support Group on FaceBook. Our little group has grown to be a big and active group and as we read posts from our members, it is becoming increasingly evident to us that as well as providing support (we are a support group after all) there is also a need for an independent source of information which our members can use to make informed decisions.

When I was first diagnosed with breast cancer, I felt like a deer caught in the headlights. Kathy and I were fortunate to land with top notch medical teams with many surgeries under their belts and a good track record. We have learnt from our group that not everyone is this fortunate. Our goal in writing this blog is to encourage and empower our members and readers to ask questions, ask the right questions and have information they need to advocate for themselves.

Full disclosure: we are partnering with a number of plastic surgeons in this endeavor. Maintaining independence is important to us and to their credit, all of the surgeons we have talked to have agreed without hesitation to let us use their materials without mentioning their names or crediting them in any way. It is reassuring to know that they are in our corner and we are truly grateful for their help and encouragement.
